Meditate upon this
“Lucy” is a blatantly commercial film. The protagonist accidentally ingests vast amounts of a chemical named CPH4, causing her brain capacity to increase dramatically. As a result, she reaches an ultimate state of awareness. All at once she is in the future, in deep space, in the past with neanderthals, in China and Orlando and everywhere else. This was pure fiction of course, but it got me thinking.
Not about CPH4, but meditation.
Could deep meditation take one to a level of awareness that transcends space and time? Ancient Hindu sages understood planetary movements and many other patterns in deep space. They had insights way beyond what could otherwise be perceived. They were aware of the internal mechanisms of our body. All of this without any tools or formal instruction.
Every major religion has prayer and meditation at the core of it. Prophets and Messiahs were in a constant state of prayer and meditation , and received their core revelations during those times. They too, often, transcended time and space. The evidence of divine intervention lies in the depth and wisdom of their teachings. Many religions validate themselves with predictions that came true, and prophecies that were fulfilled.
Religious conflicts range from polite discussions to mayhem. No one can claim to understand everything in their scripture. It may be that meditation could help increase awareness. Not just rote prayer, but meditation. A higher level of awareness may lead to a deeper understanding of the core of their own religions.
“Sitting and concentrating the mind
On a single object,
Controlling the thoughts
And the activities of the senses,
Let the yogi practice meditation for self-purification.”
– Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 6, Verse 11
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
-King James Bible, Psalms 46:10
When Buddha was asked, “What have you gained from meditation?”, the answer was:“It is not what I have gained that is important but rather what I have diminished, namely, greed, hatred, sickness, depression, delusion…..”
Many Muslims believe that meditation, or a state of present moment awareness, is essential in Islamic spiritual practice, particularly in Islamic prayer .
BLOG BITES
There is so much unrest in the world today in the name of religion, much of which arises from ignorance and fear. A few minutes each day would be better spent in silence, looking within, rather than wasting hours to try and change someone else’s belief system.
My name is Shivaram Kumar and after two and a half decades of working with people from every conceivable race, religion, ethnicity, language, nationality and orientation, empowering them with self-belief and confidence, my wife Anjali and I know for sure that words make all the difference. The words we listen to, and the words we speak.

Yes, I do believe that deep meditation can take one to a level of awareness that transcends space and time. Great question Kumar, thanks for asking!
Meditation allows us to connect with the divinity within, through which we are able to connect with divinity within “every one else” and the infinite – A logical explanation for something that is beyond logic.
Love this post! There is even an entire group of atheists that I’ve read about that subscribe to mediation! 15-20 minutes of mediation in the morning has been a game changer for me. Increased awareness is the best gift I found I can give anyone / anything.
Wow!!
Well stated and simplified pointers. Thank you Kumar for sharing.
Beautiful thoughts! Spending some time on our thoughts is essential in this cyber days!
Wow this was amazing! I love the quotes which you chose to include here. And it makes perfect sense! Abraham Hicks, author of Law of Attraction also talks about this, which I’ve been SO into. I’ve started meditating 15min a day and relish in the solitary random spurts of time throughout my day to re-center !
