Humuhumunukunukuapua’a
Hawaiian names are often energetic alliterations, rhythmic and happy. The state fish is called Humuhumunukunukuapua’a. It is also the name of a restaurant at The Grand Wailea Hotel in Maui. We have stayed at this location maybe a dozen times over the past two decades, about a week each time. This resort is like a home away from home. This is a favorite destination for our annual trip with special invitations to entrepreneurs in our business who achieve certain specific goals. Many of us bring our children along, running the gamut of just palying by the beach and poolside to fostering an environment for the next generation to help build camaraderie amongst their peers, as some of them will one day take the baton from their parents to carry on the legacy.
Most attendees are financially free, with a rare combination of time and money. The trip features business meetings, and a generous choice of activities like zip lining, horseback riding, golf, tennis, whale watching, surfing, snorkeling, helicopter tours, fine dining and the Grand Wailea Spa, which has to be one of the top spas in the world, with an eloaborate terme and luxurious treatments.
You don’t have to be in business with us to be able to enjoy Hawaii. But we have a unique dimension to our trips. People root for one another – no one has to lose for someone to win. Our business is not a zero sum game. Quite the contrary… the more someone succeeds the better it is for everyone. That is just how our business model works. None of us is an employee vying for position. We are independent business owners with no external limits placed on us.
So, our trips are happy, energetic and joyous. They are true associations with people with great attitudes and positive mindsets, predominantly free of bickering and politicking.
Whenever we have our event at the Grand Wailea, we have a tradition on departure day- a great big buffet for everyone at the HumuHumu. While formal business dinners are not open to the whole family, this event is.
It symbolizes friendship, family, financial freedom, success, diversity, lifelong relationships, multi-generational legacies, food and indelible memories.
