Meditate upon this
“Lucy” is a blatantly commercial film. The protagonist accidentally ingests vast amounts of a chemical named CPH4, causing her brain capacity to increase dramatically. As a result, she reaches an ultimate state of awareness. All at once she is in the future, in deep space, in the past with neanderthals, in China and Orlando and everywhere else. This was pure fiction of course, but it got me thinking.
Not about CPH4, but meditation.
Could deep meditation take one to a level of awareness that transcends space and time? Ancient Hindu sages understood planetary movements and many other patterns in deep space. They had insights way beyond what could otherwise be perceived. They were aware of the internal mechanisms of our body. All of this without any tools or formal instruction.
Every major religion has prayer and meditation at the core of it. Prophets and Messiahs were in a constant state of prayer and meditation , and received their core revelations during those times. They too, often, transcended time and space. The evidence of divine intervention lies in the depth and wisdom of their teachings. Many religions validate themselves with predictions that came true, and prophecies that were fulfilled.
Religious conflicts range from polite discussions to mayhem. No one can claim to understand everything in their scripture. It may be that meditation could help increase awareness. Not just rote prayer, but meditation. A higher level of awareness may lead to a deeper understanding of the core of their own religions.
“Sitting and concentrating the mind
On a single object,
Controlling the thoughts
And the activities of the senses,
Let the yogi practice meditation for self-purification.”
– Bhagavad Gita, Chapter 6, Verse 11
“Be still, and know that I am God…”
-King James Bible, Psalms 46:10
When Buddha was asked, “What have you gained from meditation?”, the answer was:“It is not what I have gained that is important but rather what I have diminished, namely, greed, hatred, sickness, depression, delusion…..”
Many Muslims believe that meditation, or a state of present moment awareness, is essential in Islamic spiritual practice, particularly in Islamic prayer .

There is so much unrest in the world today in the name of religion, much of which arises from ignorance and fear. A few minutes each day would be better spent in silence, looking within, rather than wasting hours to try and change someone else’s belief system.
