My Amazing Wife

Attitude, Courage, Relationships

Today is Anjali’s birthday. In our family, we celebrate happy events, but on our terms. We went out to dinner a couple of times last week, and to a comedy show in New York, and decided that they were all part of the birthday celebration. Today there won’t be any special  plans because it is also Karva Chauth. This means Anjali is fasting. She won’t eat a morsel until the moon shows up at night.
I would hardly classify our family as religious or ritualistic. Karva Chauth is the only ritual that Anjali follows diligently each year.

What is remarkable is her equanimity. It is one thing to read about and preach an evenness of spirit, calmness in demeanor, and a non-judgmental attitude, it is a whole different thing to implement all of this.

Anjali Kumar does this effortlessly, every day of her life, and not just when she is fasting on Karva Chauth.

When you are around her, you cant help but feel good about yourself and about life in general. She is a strong woman, but gentle. Like they say, steel and velvet.

As business mentors, we complement each other very nicely. I am strong on message, with a focus on empowering and identifying leaders. Anjali creates the perfect balance – her strength is in spreading love and nurturing relationships.

I am a blessed man.

Everyone agrees that a calm, non-reactive attitude is essential in being able to deal with everything that life throws at us. Few people, however, remember this when it comes to real situations ( Someone said: I am very aware of the futility of a temper tantrum until I get angry). We should read and listen to content that will teach us the right attitudes and thought processes. The key is to then make every effort to actually apply them when we are faced with difficult situations. A great saying like “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” should not deteriorate to “Do unto others before they do unto you”.
